InnoChangeMaker (ICM)

The InnoChangeMaker (ICM) Programme for Middle Primary students, introduced alongside the removal of Mid-Year Examinations, advances 21st Century Competencies through Design Thinking principles anchored in Ideation-Prototyping-Showcasing cycles.

Students develop critical and inventive thinking, and empathy by integrating Eco-Stewardship, Applied Learning Programme, and Values-In-Action components. The InnoHub serves as a living lab deepening EdTech integration. Using the environment as a stimulus for thinking, iPads support research and ideation, green screens enable multimedia presentations, and interactive walls facilitate collaborative digital creation.

The MakerSpace incorporates technology-enhanced prototyping tools, whilst the Media Studio develops students' digital literacy through content creation for publicity materials. This technology-rich environment guides students through comprehensive project development, from ideation to showcasing, translating ideas into meaningful outcomes that benefit the community.

Our collaboration with Lion Befrienders stemmed from our desire to provide students with authentic, meaningful learning experiences beyond the classroom.

As part of our Stewards of Environmental Action (S.E.A) efforts, we wanted students to not only learn about sustainability, but also apply it in ways that create real impact within the community.

Together with our VIA team, we identified Lion Befrienders as a meaningful partner due to their strong support for the elderly community. This collaboration brought together two important areas environmental stewardship and empathy through intergenerational learning experiences where our students could meaningfully engage with, learn from, and care for the elderly.

The outreach was led by our Primary 3 and 4 Anchor Captains (Prefects) and Green Captains, who played a key role in planning and facilitating the activities.

The programme was grounded in our Design Thinking approach. Students first visited Lion Befrienders to empathise with the elderly, where they interacted, observed, and conducted simple interviews to better understand the seniors’ interests, needs, and daily experiences.

Based on these insights, students returned to school to ideate and design activities that would be both meaningful and enjoyable. They eventually curated a 5-station outreach, each centred on sustainability concepts while promoting active ageing and engagement:

Through these stations, students translated sustainability into hands-on, accessible experiences, ensuring that learning was engaging, purposeful, and inclusive.
